| Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent County, Wales Working for the Welsh Assembly Government (DEIN) and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council we have been leading this major project. The closure of the Corus Steelworks in 2002 created a major regeneration challenge and our work has extended from preparing the development framework, masterplan, design codes and outline planning to detailed design for this complex 75ha site.
The masterplan sets new standards in sustainable urban design, and includes further education facilities, a new 100 bed hospital, primary school, large wetland park, theatre, leisure centre, offices and around 700 homes to benefit both the new and existing community. We have integrated the Grade II* listed General Offices and sub-surface industrial structures into the plan and new road and rail links address regional movement. Landscaped steps and a funicular connects the site to the town centre.
